NHL = The National Hockey League is currently at 31 teams with last season’s addition of the NHL expansion club Las Vegas Golden Knights. With the Seattle expansion team on the horizon, the league will most likely expand again next season.

AHL = American Hockey League will add their 31st team for the 2018-19 season with the addition of the former ECHL’s Colorado Eagles who will be affiliated with the Colorado Avalanche. Other affiliation changes for the coming season: San Antonio Rampage will be affiliated with the St. Louis Blues, and the Chicago Wolves are now the sole affiliate of the Vegas Golden Knights.

ECHL = (formerly the East Coast Hockey League) — The ECHL will have 27 teams for the 2018-19 season with a few changes from last season. Departing the ECHL this coming season: the Colorado Eagles has become an AHL franchise, and the Quad City Mallards ceased operations at the end of the 2017-18 season. Two new teams have joined the ECHL: the Maine Mariners (located in Portland) and the Newfoundland Growlers (located in St. John’s).
There are a number ECHL teams who have not yet publicly confirmed their 2018-19 affiliations, however that is not uncommon for this group during early summer.
