The OKC Barons met the Texas Stars on home ice Friday evening and the result was a far different one from last Sunday. The final score was Barons 10 – Stars 1. Yes, that score is correct. 10 – 1. The Barons wasted no time seeking their revenge for Sunday night’s wipe out by Texas and at the closing buzzer the Barons had scored 10 goals, breaking a number of team and individual records. Yann Danis in his first Barons’ victory was outstanding Friday night and saved 27 of 28 shots.

1st Period:

  • 1. At 11:53 into the first period, Hunter Tremblay scored with Pitlick and Arcobello assisting.
  • 2. At 12:31, 38 seconds later, Ryan Keller scored, with Hartikainen and Green assisting.
  • 3. At 13:20, Triston Grant scored, with Tyrvainen and Motin assisting.

2nd Period:

  • 4. At 3:12 Ryan Keller scored again.
  • 5. At 7:18, on a power play, Philippe Cornet scored, with Keller and Green assisting.
  • 6. At 10:39, on a power play, Tyler Pitlick scored, with Helmer and Keller assisting.
  • 7. At 11:13, on a power play, Teemu Hartikainen scored, with Green and Cornet assisting.
  • 8. 10 seconds later, at 11:23, Chris VandeVelde scored, with Teubert and Montgomery assisting.
  • 9. At 18:12, Colten Teubert scored, with Montgomery and VandeVelde assisting.

3rd Period:

  • Texas scored — Francis Wathier, at 4:08, with Spang and Lukowich assisting.
  • 10. At 8:27, Triston Grant scored, with VandeVelde and Motin assisting.

The Barons’ six-goals in the second period broke a team franchise record for goals in one period. Chris VandeVelde broke another team record when he scored 10 seconds following Hartikainen’s goal, setting the record for the fastest two goals in team history.

The home opening game was beyond exciting! Well done Barons! In the second period, fans were overwhelmed with goals and joked that they should just remain standing since the goals were appearing with such quickness and regularity.
