Anyone who has read my blog — from the beginning — knows that I follow the Vancouver Canucks. That means I also follow their AHL affiliate the Chicago Wolves as well, and that will cause some conflict this year, as my local AHL team is the Oklahoma City Barons — the AHL affiliate to the Edmonton Oilers. I have never felt it was necessary to just follow one team, do or die. I love hockey and if you only follow one team you lose out on some great hockey.

Tonight, the Vancouver Canucks open their 2011-2012 season in Vancouver against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Sadly, the game will not feature Ryan Kesler nor Sidney Crosby — Crosby did however travel with the team to Vancouver. Pittsburgh is another team I have followed over the years. Living in DC I followed the Washington Capitals, and they will always have a spot in my heart. As will the Boston Bruins — despite their victory over the Vancouver Canucks in that seventh game of the Stanley Cup Finals. (Read my earlier post on the Vancouver Canucks 2010-2011 season.) Tampa Bay Lightning and their new coach Guy Boucher greatly intrigued me last season and I eagerly look forward to their upcoming season. I will also be watching the Nashville Predators, Detroit Red Wings, Edmonton Oilers, Buffalo Sabres, Philadelphia Flyers and Columbus Blue Jackets with interest this year. Truthfully, I will be watching all of the NHL teams this season when possible.

Go Canucks! And all the other teams … let’s see some great hockey this year!
