Are you watching the prospect tournaments? If you are starved for hockey, give them a try but keep in mind the players are young prospects. Some are very polished and provide a good glimpse of how they might play in the NHL while others, some as young as 18, are still honing their skills and learning to play as a team. Last night’s Vancouver vs. Edmonton game was a very good example. Edmonton’s team included their number one draft pick, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, along with Anton Lander, Philippe Cornet, Martin Gernat, Curtis Hamilton, Colten Teubert and Olivier Roy. Vancouver’s team included Darren Archibald, Nicklas Jensen, Alex Friesen, Jordan Schroeder, Bill Sweatt, Anton Rodin and Adam Polasek, among others. As you can see from the score, Edmonton got the best of Vancouver, outshooting and outscoring the Canucks with a final score of 7 – 2. Canucks goaltender David Honzik started the game but after allowing six goals, he was replaced with Karel St. Laurent.

For many fans, this was the first opportunity to watch their team prospects, as well as have an opportunity to see the Oklahoma City Barons coach Todd Nelson and the new Chicago Wolves coach Craig MacTavish in action. Does this predict the future season to come? Hardly, but it was certainly fun to watch hockey again!
