As we predicted, defenseman Bryan Helmer has been chosen as the 2011-2012 Barons captain, and Ryan Keller and Josh Green will fill the alternate captain spots.  (And, yes, we really have four Ryans on the team.)

Listen to the Barons game on 96.1 KXY with Jim Byers on play-by-play, and the game will also be available on AHL Live for a fee. It is commendable that the AHL provides this service, however, the price and quality leaves a great deal to be desired. If you are new to AHL Live and have only watched NHL Game Center, you are forewarned.

In addition to radio and AHL Live, follow @AHLBarons — Eric Rodgers on Twitter who will be live tweeting the game.

The Barons’ second game will take place on October 14 against the San Antonio Rampage, and the home season opener is October 15 versus the Texas Stars. The Barons will face the Texas teams — Houston Aeros, Texas Stars and San Antonio Rampage — 26 times this season, so you might as well become familiar with them.
